Teen Counselling

Teen Counselling

Adolescent Focused

RMPS psychologists use their clinical skills to first engage the teenager, then decide whether the best approach to address the issue is traditional talk therapy or other modalities such as expressive arts, sand, or movement. As children grow into teenagers, their ability to express themselves is enhanced, and therefore counselling must also change to engage teens with their new skills. The psychologist must also be careful to not to simply apply adult approaches to teens – their way of thinking is different and their brain development is different than an adult.

The Right Approach for Your Teenager

Whichever mode is pursued, the goal is to help teens understand their own brain and nervous system how the way these function affects the way they think, feel and act. With more understanding of these, in addition to other patterns discovered during the course of therapy, the teen is able to gain a new perspective on their situation as well as gain new coping strategies.
